Eladia Blázquez (1931-2005) was an Argentine composer, singer, and poet, considered one of the most important figures of Argentinian popular music. She started writing songs when she was 12 and made her debut as a singer in 1953. Her music style combines elements of tango, jazz, and bossa nova, and she is credited with introducing a more introspective and sentimental tone into the popular music of Argentina. Some of her most famous compositions are "Buenos Aires", "Contame una historia", and "Aguafuerte". Blázquez also wrote poetry, short stories, and novels, and was involved in the cultural and political life of her country. She received numerous awards for her work, including the Konex Award and the Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Her music continues to be an important part of the Argentinian cultural heritage.
